Whether children have language skills, they can sign, or they can point to a picture, they communicate. Even if they are non-verbal and not able to do any of these things, they can still communicate. And guess what? The so-called “meltdowns” …those are also a form of communication. The job of SCADD’s licensed speech and language pathologists and SLP assistants is to teach our kiddos how to communicate what they want in a way that can be understood by others. This ranges from developing oral motor control to make sounds and words, all the way to participating in conversations to create meaningful relationships. We also offer augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) for children who may need a different way to find their voices.

Speech + Language Therapy

Someone special taught me: "love needs no words"

Reserved children often possess the most vibrant minds

Whether children have developed language skills, can sign, or use pictures to communicate, they are expressing themselves. Even non-verbal children, unable to employ these methods, find ways to communicate—yes, even those so-called "meltdowns" serve as a form of expression.

The role of SCADD’s licensed speech and language pathologists and SLP assistants is to guide our youngsters in articulating their desires in a manner understood by others. This encompasses refining oral motor control to produce sounds and words, progressing to participating in conversations for meaningful relationships. Additionally, we offer augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) for children requiring alternative means to express themselves.

Early in your child's developmental stages, if you harbor concerns, turn to us. While developmental milestones vary among children, seeking a diagnostic or speech therapy evaluation can alleviate worries with potentially life-changing outcomes.

An autism diagnosis is life-changing, but not life-defining

Parents often express apprehension about "labeling" their child with autism, fearing implications for the family's future. Interestingly, not a single person has regretted their child being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In fact, many wish they had pursued an evaluation even earlier. A diagnosis is not a conclusion; it's the commencement of a transformative journey. It serves as the gateway to comprehending the unique workings of your child's mind and equipping them with the necessary tools for success.

Nurture is in Our Nature

How does it sound to sit in the front row of some of the most pivotal moments in a person’s life? To receive the highest level of training and work alongside other experts in their fields for a unified mission?

We don't see autism as a disability; just a different ability

The beauty of pediatric occupational therapy (OT) is that it leads kids toward independence in what they love to do most…play! A child’s learning is grounded in play, so SCADD licensed OTRs and COTAs use it to teach kids with autism and other developmental delays the foundational skills they need to occupy their time as they grow.
